Wax On, Wax Off

(DISCLAIMER: The first few paragraphs of this blog are a fictional dramatization based on true events and was drawn from a variety of sources. Names have been omitted to protect the guilty. Any resemblance to actual events or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental. In addition, it was written tongue in cheek, with a heaping dose of humor!)

“Hey did you know there is a new waxing salon in town? Only twenty dollars to wax, trim and tweeze your eyebrows! AND, they are having a sale on eyebrow pencils!”

Um, what?!? Is it just me? Why would you wax ‘em off, only to draw ‘em back on? I don’t get it.

Reminds me of the time someone asked me “Who does your eyebrows? They look great!”

Well, God did them. Good genes from my mom helped. And then of course there are the tweezers that I USE ON MYSELF!

Too often we listen when the world tells us our value is in our looks. Judging from my sagging skin, these looks won’t last forever!

“Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the fear of God.”  Proverb 31:30 MSG

So often we forget that Whose we are is more valuable that who we are or how we look. We want to look like everyone else, styled and keeping up with the neighbors. I know I did, for the longest time. Ultimately, our identity comes not in how we look, how much we have, but in the One we look to: Jesus Christ.

Our inner glow should be a direct reflection of His light shining through us, onto others.

Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. 1 Peter 3:4 NIV

[tweetthis]What if we replaced worldly standards with the standards of The Word?[/tweetthis]

Don’t like your oddly shaped eyebrows? Remember, God knew you before He formed you in your mama’s tummy. He made all the delicate and inner parts of your body, and knit them together in her womb (Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:13).

Feeling  unloved? You are precious in His sight, and He loves you. You cannot be separated from the love of God (Isaiah 43:4, Romans 8:38)

Have no purpose or nothing to offer? You are called and chosen, and He has a plan and a purpose for you. (1 Peter 2:9, Ephesians 1:4, Romans 8:28)

Your identity doesn’t come from how you look or what others say about you. Your identity comes from what God says about you. It comes not from what you have done, but what He has done for you.

Oh, Father God! We are so thankful that You love us with an everlasting love; that You gave Your only Son to pay the price for our sins. Thank You Father, for the gift of Jesus. Without Him, we are nothing. With Him, we are everything! In His name, Amen.

Grace be with you,

Amen, Ellen! I love this wisdom and encouragement here, friend! (I don’t get eyebrow waxing either! I might consider it if I had a unibrow or something, but I don’t. So I think I’m good!)

Welcome!

Torrential rains had been pelting us for weeks. With the rains came weeds growing tall in the flower beds. But I noticed other new growth, too. It wasn’t colorful flowers. It was teeny, tiny little oak trees! Squirrels had been working hard, burying food for later. The rains had soaked and softened … Read More...
